Sri Lanka ETA for Children: Fees, Passports and Family Applications

Does a child need an ETA?

A child’s travel permission must be assessed separately using the child’s nationality, passport and purpose. Being included in a family trip does not mean the parent’s ETA covers the child.

Government fee for children under 12

The official fee page states that children of any nationality under 12 are eligible for a free tourist ETA for a stay up to 30 days. Extension fees apply when the stay exceeds that period. This is an exemption from the government processing charge, not from providing accurate traveller information.

Passport and photo preparation

Use the child’s own current travel document and enter the identity exactly as printed. Where a separate photo is requested, provide the child’s recent image. Label family files clearly and reopen each one to prevent sibling or parent uploads being exchanged.

Consent and carrier checks

Airlines, transit countries and border authorities may ask for documents relating to parental consent, custody, birth relationships or an absent parent. These are journey-specific and separate from the ordinary ETA fields, so confirm them with the carrier and relevant authorities.

Family review workflow

1. Create a separate identity checklist for each traveller.
2. Match each passport number and birth date.
3. Confirm the correct personal photo.
4. Store every reference under the traveller’s full name.
