Capture the full page in colour with the portrait, identity text and machine-readable zone visible. Use sharp focus and even light. Remove fingers and shadows; avoid flash glare, cropped edges, protective-cover reflections and screenshots compressed by messaging apps.
Name and number consistency
Copy the Latin-script surname and given names exactly. Do not transliterate again, expand initials or replace the passport spelling with a local record. Check zeros and letter O, ones and letter I, and the passport expiry.
Separate personal photograph
When requested, the personal photo should be recent, front-facing and clearly show the applicant. Use a plain background, natural colour and no beauty filter. Do not submit the portrait cropped from the passport data page as the separate image.
Family and group controls
Rename files with each traveller’s name and document type before upload. Open the files after selection. This prevents one applicant’s passport or portrait being attached to another record.
After passport renewal
The ETA must correspond to the passport used for entry. If the passport is replaced after submission, seek case-specific guidance rather than assuming the approval transfers to the new number.
